If you’re great at building relationships, want to get in the trenches with us, and commit to at least one year of consistent community, you should be an advocate!
As a RISE Advocate, you will develop a one-on-one relationship with a woman rehabilitating from a life of sexual exploitation.
One of the key elements in a woman’s recovery being successful is a deep need for healthy friendships and new forms of recreation.
Through our Advocacy Program, we give each woman an advocate (mentor) to walk alongside her throughout her recovery process. Most participants in our advocacy program are referrals from Tarrant County’s prostitution probation programed called The RISE Program.
The RISE program was started by Judge Carr of Tarrant County Criminal Court 9 and mostly consists of women who are high-risk, have 3 or more charges of prostitution on their record, and are facing time in prison. Many of the women who participate in this program come from a background of both sexual and physical abuse, have experienced trauma through being in the sex industry, and have a long history of substance abuse as well.
Through this 2-4 year recovery program, women work incredibly hard to rebuild their lives. From securing housing and going back to school to rebuilding relationships with family and finding employment, they need a community of support to come alongside them every step of the way. That’s where you come in!
As a RISE Advocate, you will:
Develop a one-on-one relationship with a woman rehabilitating from a life of sexual exploitation
Commit to walking in consistent friendship for two years with the woman you are paired with in RISE
Commit to communicating with her at least once a week and meeting with her at least once a month in person
*This volunteer opportunity is women only. You must be involved in a local church, including a small group.
