FAQ
Why has The Net decided to make this transition?
In short, we believe this is where God is leading The Net. He has opened a number of doors for The Net to continue to grow in the anti-trafficking space, while at the same time, has brought new opportunities for our friends experiencing homelessness and refugee kiddos to be served through church and community partners. Under the leadership of these partners, these programs will not only continue but will grow and thrive in new ways!
Why now?
We have been thinking through and praying through the possibility of this transition for a while now, and there are a number of reasons we feel now is the best time. First, we truly believe this is where God is leading The Net. Second, the building on Lancaster that we have called home for the past few years is being sold, which is why we have moved our team offices to One Safe Place. Third, this is a transition that we have been praying about for a few years and while our timeline was originally different, covid caused us to reevaluate and move forward with this transition in 2021.
What will happen to friends of The Net?
What is the internship going to look like?
Who will you be serving now/what are your programs now?
This is a great question and, without a doubt, the most challenging aspect of this transition.
First, we are so excited and encouraged by church and community partners stepping forward to continue serving folks through these programs. Southside City Church will continue a day shelter, similar to Net Center, for our friends experiencing homelessness with extended hours. A group of our TCU interns have started a Bingo and Bagels club with funding from TCU where they will continue gathering with street friends for weekly breakfast and bingo. And finally, The Paradox Church is taking over our after school program starting fall 2021! The program will be a part of their regular kids ministry. And with several current mentors already attending this church, the disruption for the kids will be very minimal and our long lasting relationships will continue!
Secondly, Alex and the rest of The Net team live in Fort Worth so this is not the end of our relationships - these friendships will carry on! Thankfully, many of our friends have cell phones and facebook we will use to stay in touch.
Our internship will continue to focus on discipleship, leadership, and service. Interns will also take a hands-on role in our anti-trafficking initiatives, as well as assisting in the planning and execution of special events, donor engagement, and social media management.
We are so excited to continue our three anti-trafficking programs, Purchased, MASE, and The Worthy Co, which will continue running as they have and will hopefully grow, expand, and make even more of an impact.
