“Excuse me, what is your name? Why are you here? Show me your badge.” These are the first few words that I hear as I enter in a pod for an assessment as a volunteer/intern for Purchased with The NET.
For those of you who haven’t been to Tarrant County jail recently, it is located downtown, and two of the floors—12 and 13—are dedicated solely to women. On each floor there are four pods with about 50-70 women in each pod. As a volunteer, I come and go, visiting each pod; they all have to stay.
Of course that is obvious, if you are in jail you can’t leave, but today that was more apparent than ever. Sometimes it just hits you, the truth, and it can take your breath away…
